Place Flatware

Indexes • Manufacturer • Holloware • Flatware • Miscellaneous • Coin Silver • Foreign Indexes

This category will picture various unusual and/or attractive groups of place pieces. These will include Spoons, Forks & Knives of various types arranged alphabetically by usage. Some groups will be combined by similar usage; one example will be the Ice Cream Forks & Spoons which will include both of those items as well as Sorbet & Sherbet Spoons. Another example would be Place Knives which will in general include most non-specialty knives ranging from 7 to 11 inches long including antique Table and Dessert Knives as well as the more modern Dinner and Luncheon Knives, also Breakfast, and Tea Knives; they may have a steel, silverplated, stainless steel, or solid silver blade, and the handles may be hollow or solid silver, mother-of-pearl, porcelain, or ivory. So please look carefully through the following listings; it is possible that something you may be interested in might be listed somewhat different than expected. I often find that if one does not have the original catalog it is quite easy to mislabel a piece; original names for pieces often change in time. For Civil War vintage or earlier pieces see our Antique American Coin Silver Place Flatware page. For all of our stock of 20th century handcrafted silverware please check out Arts & Crafts Silverware.

If you are interested in acquiring a set of matching flatware please check our Flatware Services page; for various flatware servers check out the following six pages: Serving Spoons (those with a bowl), Serving Forks (those with tines), Serving Knives (those with blades), Serving Sets (combinations of servers or serving and place pieces), Ladles (bowls again!), and Miscellaneous Servers (everything else!). Identifying the original use of a server can sometimes be difficult, especially if one does not have the manufacturer's catalog. As a consequence we may have just what you need listed under a completely different category than what you might expect. Thus it is hoped that having a separate page for these six broad groupings of servers will enable you to search through somewhat similar categories that may more quickly yield what you are looking for. These sections will include post-Civil War American Servers and foreign examples of any age. There is a separate archival page devoted to Baltimore Repoussι Servers if that is your only interest. For Civil War and earlier American examples please check out Coin Silver Servers, Coin Silver Ladles, and Coin Silver Sugar Tongs.

If a piece is marked On Hold it has been reserved by a customer, and if it is marked Sold the transaction has been completed. We try to keep up with our sales but I apologize in advance for any pieces that are listed as available that are not. To examine our latest additions please check out our New Listings. Please use the inventory number during correspondence to help us identify a particular item.
