These will include Card Cases (for visiting or business cards to be carried in the pocket or bag), Cigarette & Cigar Boxes (to sit on the table), Cigarette & Cigar Cases (to be carried in the pocket or bag), Compacts (to be carried in the purse or case), Dresser Jars (these will be all-silver examples only, for silver & glass examples please see the Dresser Accessories page), Match Safes (and  Vesta Cases), Pill Boxes, Snuff & Tobacco Boxes ( for the pocket, bag or tabletop), Sugar Boxes & Tea Caddies (the more obvious boxy examples as opposed to jar types), Vinaigrettes (for the pocket or bag), and Miscellaneous Boxes (which will probably cover everything else!). Examples could be from anywhere although some categories tend to be more country specific than others (most vinaigrettes and English, most Sugar Boxes are Austrian or German, etc.).

Antique George III Silver Small Patch Box of rectangular book form with floral motif on the slip-on cover and base, the "spine" and "pages" engraved appropriately; marked only [IT] possibly for Joseph Taylor or one of the other Birmingham small workers, c.1790-1820. No mono. 0.88" long, 0.69" wide, 0.19" thick, 0.15 troy oz. $ 150.

American Silver Arts & Crafts Box of circular reel form, the slightly domed slip-on cover with bolded threaded edge disk form finial; made at the Geddy workshop in Williamsburg VA and marked by Philip Thorp in 1983 in a form supposedly made for the U.S. State Department. 2.25" high, 3.88" cover diameter, 8.1 troy oz. Purchased at the DeWitt Wallace Museum Shop in February 1994. Thorp trained with Bill DeMatteo and succeeded him briefly in 1983 before leaving Williamsburg. $ 850.

Chinese Silver Sewing Kit of cylindrical form with slip top, the cover and sides chased with floral and foliate decoration, holding a five section bobbin incorporating a needle holder; the base struck with an unidentified ideogram, c.1880-1930. No mono. 4.38" high, 1.12" diameter, 2.4 troy oz. gross (including thread). There is a split to the seam where the top is attached to the cap. $ 300.

German Silver Box of oval form with ruffled base and cover rims, the slightly domed cover embossed with a view of a hunter and his dog pursuing a rabbit, the sides embossed with foliate scroll decoration; struck with three unidentified pseudo-hallmarks, c.1900-1935. 1.5" high, 3.5" long, 2.88" wide, 3.3 troy oz. Engraved on base "MAH 1950". $ 150.

Antique Hungarian Silver Box of rectangular for, the sides formed as five narrow horizontal concave moldings, the flat hinged cover constructed of scroll filigree wirework; struck with an unidentified maker's mark at Budapeste, c.1872-1900. 1.75" high, 3.62" long, 3.38" wide, 3.0 troy oz. Antique Dutch Silver Snuffbox of oblong octagonal form with applied molded rims, the hinged cover engraved with a mirrored mono "GCH" with a feathered or foliate crowned reserve; marked by the unidentified [LE] at Amsterdam in the 18th century. 2.75" long, 1.88" wide, 0.62" thick, 1.9 troy oz. Also struck with a "halberd" duty mark used 1853-1927 on antique silver of Dutch origin. $ 450.

Antique Continental Silver Snuffbox of shaped oval form, the bulging hinged lid  cover chased with a repoussι pastoral scene, the bombι sides chased with musical trophies and floral decoration, set with semi-precious stones; marked "G & S" for Greenberg & Sons (as foreign agents) and struck with the London import marks for 1901/02, also marked "930".
